Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Astra Civic for using the Recaran records-organization workspace.
Last updated June 5, 2026
Draft for transparency — these terms are being finalized with counsel and are not yet a binding agreement. They describe how Recaran works today and may change before general availability.
1. What Recaran is
Recaran is a private workspace, operated by Astra Civic, that helps public-records requesters draft, organize, track, and document their own public-records requests. It is a productivity and organization tool.
Recaran is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Draft letters, checklists, and guidance are starting points for your own review — not legal opinions. For legal questions about your rights or a specific request, consult a licensed attorney.
2. You send your own requests
Unless a feature explicitly states otherwise, you send your requests to agencies yourself, from your own email or account. Recaran prepares and organizes the materials; it does not transmit, deliver, or guarantee receipt of any request, and it cannot guarantee any particular agency response or outcome.
You are responsible for verifying recipients, deadlines, and the accuracy of anything you send.
3. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use Recaran. By creating an account you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older. Recaran is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18; if we learn that we have, we will delete it.
You must provide accurate account information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. Accounts are for the use of the individual or organization that created them.
You may delete your account at any time from your profile; doing so removes your matters and associated data as described in the Privacy Policy.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use Recaran only for lawful public-records activity and in compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms.
You may not use Recaran to prepare or pursue requests that are harassing, fraudulent, unlawful, or abusive, or to violate the rights of others.
5. Subscriptions and fees
Recaran is offered on subscription plans. Plan features and prices are shown at sign-up and may change with notice. Where paid services exist, applicable fees and any third-party pass-through costs (for example, postage) will be disclosed before you incur them.
Billing terms, renewals, and cancellation will be described at checkout when paid plans are enabled.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of the request content, documents, and notes you put into Recaran ("your content"). You grant Astra Civic the limited rights needed to host and process your content to provide the service.
You are responsible for having the right to upload and store the content you add.
7. Availability and changes
Recaran is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis during this phase. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features. We aim to give reasonable notice of material changes.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Astra Civic is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for agency decisions, deadlines, or outcomes that are outside our control.
